3D detail pass deeper than rough pass

Have been using Easel for sometime, but this is my first 3D.I’m sure this is a setting but can’t figure it out. 3018 pro and both bits are 1/8, rough 3.175 up cut and detail ball nose.
Rough pass goes as expected. The start of detail pass plunges 2.8mm deeper than the bottom of the rough cut? Rough pass is only .150 deep. That’s 0.242 from the top of material. So it appears that the rough pass is not as deep as expected?
Position X 1in Y 0.524 Z 0.5
Size X1.45 Y 6.0 Z 0.25
Rectangle relief Depth 0.25 Padding 0.1

  • Homing is not enable? Have always done it at the beginning of the carves.
    What am I missing?

This is a purchased file

When you say purchased file, do you mean purchased gcode? Perhaps you can change the roughing pass manually to the same depth as the finish pass? You’d have to open the gcode in a text editor like notepad and use find/replace to change the numbers from the existing ones to new ones.

Thanks for your reply. It was a STL file that I imported to easel. Your attached picture roughing and detail look very much like mine. Not sure how to open the gcode in easel or do I need to go to candle.
Wouldn’t the depth setting I put into the Easel take care of that?

You can upload your STL to Easel and generate the gcode. It should come out in two files in the upper right corner. You click on Open and then pick the word processor that you want to use to look at the gcode and check the depths.

Was never able to get to the G code in easel. I now have it opened in Visual studio. What am I looking for?

You can use the edit/find what the z- numbers are doing.

Quick update. The main issue I posted was mostly caused by the Padding being smaller than the Roughin Bit. I had the padding set to 0.1" and the bit was 0.125". Roughin wouldn’t go any deeper because there wasn’t room for it.
Hope that makes sense?
