I use this to seal MDF edges and after cutting: Color Splash!® Clear Glue
I’d be super careful about adding water to MDF. It will swell as it’s just sawdust pressed together. I had decent luck with the Minwax Wood Hardener, but it’s $10/pint.
hey phil where do you sell these stands at?
oh very nice!! yeah that would be expensive in the mdf
have you considered a 1/2" Pre Finished Baltic Birch Ply wood?
man I have been doing alot of work in that material lately and its super nice and much lighter than mdf and may make it possible to ship
I was mostly curious in the price that you charge for them
oh yeah man no problem it is a realtivly new material to me but I am really liking it lol and kinda doing the same thing you are with the connections
and I think the baltic birch connections could possibly last longer than mdf cause its stronger
hey since you have worked with this material before
do you use a compression spiral for your through cuts?
curiously enough I am finding that a downcut spiral is giving me a great finish top and bottom I just find it werid though lol
cause when you use a upcut it just chips it all to hell on the top side
Mostly due to the spoil board supporting the bottom face which helps keep the fibers in place, where as the top face the bit has free reign to pull / lift the fibers
that was my exact thought
I guess buying a mortise compression only means that you can mortise below the upcut length lol
Do you ever run into issues with the sacrificial scrap not being flat/parallel to your actual waste board? We spend time to make sure that the spoil board is flat, and our bit is perpendicular to that surface, I get nervous that the extra scrap in between would throw all that out the window as far as accuracy.
ahh ok, so it really just depends on the material choice for that scarp, definitely a good “note to self”.
Yet again, another awesome project by Phil. Thanks for sharing. Hope the boy made a fortune off his lemonade!
I know I;ll get flagged for this but this reminds me of that kid who sells beer at a stand haha.
