[NOW LIVE] [new feature] G-code sending through easel

@BrianBoothe @TonyMarshall1 @MerleEberly @TimPillsbury @JonasRullo @HarleyLamunyon @StevePrior start sending those g-codes

@PatrickRainsberry can you please help @bill with his Fusion360 problem? Sounds like he is having a serious issue.

@bill looks like the post was withdrawn. Feel free to let me know if you help. Always you can get pretty fast Fusion 360 responses here as well:

By the way this is awesome! I didn’t realize this was also for X-Carve yet. Looking forward to giving it a whirl over the holidays.

Tried this today with MeshCAM generated gCode and it works just fine and in a couple of seconds even with a 2Mb (110,000 lines) file.

Not actually sent to the machine yet though, will try that later.

One question/suggestion, once viewing it on screen the only option is to “Close” the view (or hit the Carve button). It might be worth putting a little bit of text on there saying what you can do next as I was a little confused at first as I’d assumed it would import it just like a SVG with the 2D and 3D view. :smile:

I’ve also managed to create a design in Easel, export the gCode, modify for a laser, reimport into Easel and send to the X-Carve+Laser. Works a treat. :smile:

Cheers

Ian

@JohnGittings @JanDeWilde @BadWolf Never too late to join the party!

Yea please, I would love to try this feature!

@HenryHaslam Only 'cause you asked so nicely. You’re in!

I’d love to get this feature - I work at a school, and being able to import their G-Code into Easel would be a fantastic way to ease curriculum integration!

@EricMccord Get those students carving!

Thanks!

I would like to give it a try for Vcarve Pro files.

Thanks, @Zach_Kaplan got it figured out. I’m running a Mac and didn’t know about having to copy the file into a F360 directory. Thanks…

OK, I’ve carved about 40 signs with this since you hooked me up. (You read that right). Two things I see that would be very helpful. The ability to home the machine and to move the x, y, and z axis at any time. Perhaps a separate drop down menu with just these items on it so you can maneuver the machine without having to follow the wizards through a bunch of steps to get to that point. Some times things come up and it needs to be maneuvered or whatever and to have to load a gcode file or something else, and get to the point that you’re ready to carve before getting the prompt with the arrows to move the axes is a bit time consuming.

Same with homing the machine. Sometimes, it gets bumped, etc. and just the ability to home it at will would be handy. My two cents anyway. One other option on homing would be to have the ability to speed up the movement of the homing function as well.

It’s still much faster than using UGS so far when setting up the home position, etc.

I would love to give this a shot. I use vcarve pro and have used chilipeppr and UGCS. This is the feature I’ve been waiting for! Happy Holidays!

@JoshuaLMabry and @TraceyHathcock you’re in!

@katslod 40 signs! Wow. I read that a few times to make sure it said 40 and not 4. We want pictures! I added your feedback to our internal doc we review each week. Lots of people are out next week so it will probably be reviewed in January. However, in the meantime I have some good news for you.

  1. You should be able to use the arrow keys on the keyboard to jog the machine in X and Y. If you want to move it in Z you need to hold down shift and use the up and down arrows. You need to BE CAREFUL that the increment of the move is set appropriately or you could accidentally crash into the clamps or your work piece if you think it is going to move 0.1" and it moves 1".

  2. You can change the speed of homing right now by going to the machine inspector in the advanced menu. $25=thenumberyouwant (homing seek, mm/min) if you do a $$ it will show you what you have right now and you can increase it.
