Oval depth

hey all I’m wanting to build a egg box for my daughter how do i carve a oval depth to hold her eggs? oval shape i can do the the depth I’m having trouble with

You could start with the outline of the shape you want (importing a generic egg shape, using the Line [pen] tool, or modifying a basic circle), then use the super gradient generator to make a smooth-ish bowl from that.

It’ll probably require a bit of hand-sanding to get a nice finish, but it should work fairly well.

(Note: if you have Easel Pro, there’s already a handful of basic egg shapes in the design library to get you started.)

In case you want to mess with these:

I quickly threw together an example of what I mean.

In that project, there’s a circle and an egg shape, both turned into a dish or bowl shape using the gradient generator.

I only changed two settings in the generator:

  1. Changed the Curve Type to ease-out, which gives it a more natural shape.
  2. Changed the number of steps to 40 for a smoother curve.

The result:

(Note it won’t be that smooth unless you use a very small bit or switch to 3D carving with a ball-nose bit.)
