Am doing a number of 45mm deep, profile cuts using a 1/4” upcut mill in hard maple. With a DOC of 2mm the router struggles a little, have tried doing a 1mm offset to create clearance, Would like the machine to cut the profile and its offset at each depth but the machine wants to cut each one to it’s full depth then cuts the offset, is there a way to force Easel to combine the two toolpaths. I do not want to change mill bits or reduce the DOC as it would more than double my 1 hour run time (Profile take 5 mins). Have spindle on route am assuming that the spindle will have the horsepower to do the profile with a 2mm DOC in a single pass. Have been shutting down the run manually when I hear the router bogging down, I just finish the cut on the steam powered bandsaw,
Have you thought about just not using a finish cut and slowing down the feed rate manually? You can change the stepover too to achieve a finer result. 2mm doesn’t sound like a lot unless the bit is dull.
Thanks, the only thing I would change on the fly is the DOC and the only way to do that would be to run 2 files seperately, at DOC 1mm the machine has no trouble with clearing chips I could go into the G code & slow down the F for the profile, maybe if I start making a lot of them I will do that. Thanks for making me think about it in a new way.
Like Martin said, 2mm DOC should not be a problem. What machine are you using, XC or XC Pro?
X50, not a problem for the machine, but the router does not like it, especially when cut is deeper than 30mm. Spindle will be here next week so likely it will solve the problem.
