Shape for sign that is not a rectangle

hello all,

I need to lean on you yet again. I have a contract job to make a sign. The customer wants the basic design as shown in the photo. Is there a way, without major brain damage, to make this basic shape?
I realize that I can make a rectangle and then make a dozen or so shapes to lay over it, and set the carve to zero inches, but I’ve done that before and decided that is NOT an efficient use of my time.

The next option is to make the sign in easel, then make the actual sign the traditional way, and cut the rectangle to the final shape and glue it into the actual sign. I’d really not like to go that route, but will if necessary.

It seems that with every carve, I find more and more limitations to Easel. Hopefully one of you will have a brilliant idea.

Hummm… I just saw the new release for using points for curves… Hold tight. I’m going to try designing tomorrow using that… I’ll let you know how it goes, or if I’m still stuck.

Be patient with me… climbing the learning curve barefoot.

How about drawing 4 circles and the straight lines and then deleting the parts you don’t want?

intriguing… how do I “delete the parts that I don’t want”?.. When I draw a circle there are no points, and thus no way - that I can identify - to delete any part of it.
as mentioned, in the past, I would draw the circle and then have to lay shapes over the parts I wanted deleted, and set that shape to cut to ‘zero’… too much wasted time that way.

This is not to say that deleting parts cannot be done, only that I do not know how… and thus the reason for reaching out.

i’m open to any and all suggestions.

Much appreceated

I’m thinking you can draw 3 circles and get them situated for the top half. Then copy and paste them,and flip them to get the bottom 3 circles. Then draw straight lines at the tangent points. From there it is probably combining and adjusting depth to get what you want. I’m sure if one is savvy with Easel, this is easy, but for people like myself, there is a learning curve. This " could "be done in a CAD program in 3 minutes and imported into Easel as a DXF.

I wrote a message but i guess it went crazy. Or i did.
To do that in easel, i would use, i think the star generator can do it, generate a hexagon.
Stretch it length ways then edit the corners to be curved and adjust as needed. 5 mins maybe. A mirror editing tool would be pretty nice for making something like that.

I created this using SVG data from an Openscad program.

The parameters can be changed to get exactly what you’re looking for. Give this a look and let me know if I can help more,

Cheers.

center_radius=40;
center_height=250;
edge_radius=35;
edge_height=150;
width=300;
module area() {
hull() {
translate([-width/2+edge_radius, edge_height/2-edge_radius,0])cylinder(1,edge_radius,edge_radius,$fn=50);
translate([-width/2+edge_radius,-edge_height/2+edge_radius,0])cylinder(1,edge_radius,edge_radius,$fn=50);
translate([ width/2-edge_radius,-edge_height/2+edge_radius,0])cylinder(1,edge_radius,edge_radius,$fn=50);
translate([ width/2-edge_radius, edge_height/2-edge_radius,0])cylinder(1,edge_radius,edge_radius,$fn=50);
translate([0,center_height/2-center_radius,0])cylinder(1,center_radius,center_radius,$fn=50);
translate([0,-center_height/2+center_radius,0])cylinder(1,center_radius,center_radius,$fn=50);
}
}

projection() {
minkowski() {
// cylinder(1,8,8,$fn=50);
area();
}
}

Polygon Generator in the apps.

I would setup a drawing in Easel with correctly sized. Then would i would use program call then open the image in the lego app. Scroll to image trace and set the parameters as shown. Click on edit points and highlight the drawing and delete the nodes that you don’t want.

Hope this helps

Just in case here are the last few steps;
offset the loop line the amount desired.
click on the inside loop and set depth and offset type.
Set inside loop to desired depth and set outside line to full depth to cut out the desired piece.

Here is final image just for some info JIC

Guys,

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

sorry for the delayed response. Family issues beyond my control. I will try to knock this sign out for shipping by end of week. Then back to commitments for the weekend, and back to the computer on Monday, where I’ll try to digest all of the above information & detail, and hopefully learn from it (teach a man how to fish).

Again, thank you, this forum is unbelievably helpful, I’m so grateful

Joe

your very welcome and I check my other post on using Easel on a 3018 or a 3030
