3018 Stops Carving Intermittently

If there is anybody out there that has answers, I could really use them. My 3018 stops carving at various points, up to 75% completion. Just when I think it’s going to finish!

I have an HP ProBook 650 G2, running Microsoft Edge browser. My engraver is a generic 3018 that I bought from EBAY a few years ago. I’ve been fighting with it since putting it together and I think I’m winning. But now, it keeps stalling and the struggle is real. So, this is what I’ve done:

Sleep settings so that it NEVER goes to sleep while plugged in.
All applicable drivers updated.
New USB cables.
New powered hub.
Verified all settings including COM and USB ports.

To be honest, I feel fortunate that it will complete smaller projects, But anything over a 5 minute carve is at risk for stopping.

At this point, I don’t know what else I can do or what I may be missing. So other than recycling my engraver, I would really appreciate some help.

Thank you so much in advance. If you prefer to email me, that would be appreciated. My email address is sasteadman@hotmail.com.

I have a 3018 that I bought just for the heck of it. I created the GRBL gcode and loaded it into UGS instead of Candle or whatever came with it. I’m guessing that you’ll have to set up Easel for a similar machine if you want Easel to run it. My 3018 is an all metal one and I was surprised how nice it works.

It might be worth a try.

Thanks, Martin. I appreciate your response. I’m running Easel with my 3018. Since writing that post I’ve discovered if I make project segments small and decrease the carving depth I can get more done before it decides to stall. Not the most productive remedy but it works for now until I can come up with another solution.

Best,
