How to 'cut' 45 degrees on a rectangle corner in Easel Pro?

Hi Everyone,

I need to cut 45 degree angles on the top corners of a rectangle. So far, I’ve not been able to figure out how to do that in Easel Pro. I’m not sure if I’m missing something simple (hope so), or if this is something I need the forum’s help with.

Specifically, how does one, in Easel Pro, modify the cut line of a rectangle?

Here’s a picture that may help. The top piece shows what I’m presently cutting with my machine. As I have yet to figure this out on my own, I do the (rectangle) CNC cut square and then cut the 45s on the table saw. The bottom piece reflects the intended result - ideally all with the CNC.

Thanks in advance!
Jim

There’s no built-in tool, but there’s 2 fairly easy ways todo this:

  1. Click on the rectangle and press E to go into point editing mode. Then you can click near the corner to add a new point, and move the old corner point around until you get the shape you want. This could be tricky depending on how exact you need the corners to be, but you can type in the X, Y coordinates of the points to get it exact.

  2. Create a second rectangle or square, and rotate it 45º. Then move this over the corner until you get the look you want. Subtract the rotated rectangle from the original shape, and you’ll end up with the final look you want.
Subtracting can either be done using the Better Booleans app, or you can change the depth of the shapes to make the first shape black (100% depth) and the second white (0% depth), select them both, and choose Combine from the popup menu.

Hope that helps, it can be confusing since Easel isn’t the best design tool.

I do this frequently. Grab the line tool draw two vertical lines, set the cut depth and line length. Rotate the one line 45 degrees and the other to -45 degrees. Move the lines to the desired edge and cut.
