I’m going to try first STL carve. I’m going to use a 1/4" roughing bit then tapered ball for finishing. Once roughing is done and no original height material is left, how do you set zero for the detail bit. Real newbie question. Should you reference the spoilboard? How in Easel?
I use the x y zero point, work zero, as the spot where i set z zero after a tool change. With that in mind i will usually ensure my design is not carving at that point. If that makes sense.
If you know your starting thinkness you might be able to use the manual zero, lowering your bit to the spoil board then raising it the same amount as the material thickness, setting that as your zero.
I guess I’ll cut it out of a larger piece, so the original height is retained. I do use original XY zero and even write down the machine coordinates for that work zero. The spoilboard as a reference is what I was thinking with this question as an alternative method.
Thanks
Phil
