I want to make a simple box that is going to stand up on its side so I need 90 degree joins. I was wondering if I can use my cnc to do this. If I have to buy a special bit then thats ok. just want to know what bit and how to program it.
My suggested learning path
On the left hand side of the screen is a cross screwdriver icon.
Click on it and scroll down to “Box Maker classic” or “Box Maker” (includes sliding lid option). and follow the screen instructions.
It has been best for me to set the Material Thickness first. This allows the tabs to be the correct size. The dog bone feature allows the box to be assembly to be tight without and manual filing of the corners. There are some wonderful features included in the app library so [;ease check them out.
All three of these apps work with basic Easel.
Hope you have good fortune on this path.
would it be possible for other join type? or maybe modify size or frequency of tabs?
Yes, you should try experiment with the program and their optional settings. Easel also has made a bunch of very nice how to tutorials.
I would like to not have a top on it but also all the top parts flat not tabbed so the link shows the box. I will remove the top but the top of now an open box all along the top surface shouldn’t have tabs. is there another app to do a non topped box or how do i modify the topp of each component?
Here is a little more detail as to how you can make what you really want to make.
Have fun and let us know your efforts
After setting these options, press import, then choose if you want it scaled to fit work piece.
The drawings can be moving to where you want them on the work piece. Choose one side and click on edit points.
Click on edit points and select the nodes that you want to delete.
Highlight a node that you don’t want and press delete, repeat as desired.
Hope that this short how to will enhance your Easel experience.

Thanks Ron ! I tried that and it works!! I found you can hold the control key down and do multiple nodes at the same time. I learn more about Easel by trying to help these folks…LOL. I use Rhino for drawing, but will give this box thing a try if it ever warms up. I’d have to add a tab or two ( or use double sided tape on the parts not attached anymore.
I am glad that it worked. I seem to find a lot by trial and error. I haven’t seen any complete documentation on the features and foibles of Easel. I like the fact that you can making slight changes in design details and run the part directly off the drawing. I find that helping others helps me find solutions.
For CAD drawing I use nanocad as it is most like Draftsight. (very similar to and is from 3DS) and its free to use. The bulk of what I use my 3030 ProVer for is making hexahedrons in. (acrylic cubes) and 1.5” anodized aluminum machinery tags. Anyway I really enjoy seeing you involvement with Easel. It’s nice to be associated with a group that spends its effort solving issues. Yeah…it would be nice if they came back and said it worked out for some psychic salary too. LOL.
Thanks for the leads. 85% or more done.
I passed them on to my friend.
Thanks again!
