Make a project in Easel Pro without connecting to a machine

Hey Peeps! I joined a maker space recently and i’d like to get my project ready to save time on location. Is there any way to get Easel Pro to work without connecting to a machine? I’m new to Easel, i’m a heavy Fusion 360 user so it looks pretty simple. My project involves machining some aluminum, is that something i can do in the standard edition of Easel?

Thanks in Advance for your help.

Yes,
When easel prompts the user to setup a cnc machine, there is an X at the upper right, you can X out of the machine setup and proceed with designing and setting up the carve.

If this X is no longer present, you can proceed with selecting “3rd party cnc” and “other” “other” and setting the work area of the machine you anticipate using, then select connect. there on the connect screen you can exit and the fake machine will still be setup in the machine list and you can proceed with the design and setting up the carve.

Sorry but I tried that today 18/9/25 and the page freezes.
I have a 400x by 600y (SainSmart Pro Max upgraded).
Entering “Other” in “Other Make” and “Other Model” there is no ‘X’ or off-line option.

Assistance would be appreciated.

did you try a sainsmart computer set up?

Just got it set up and through to the projects screen.
The solution is to use “other” for every setting, including the controller!
I plan to design in the house and use a laptop connected to the machine in an outbuilding.
So far so good. Thanks for watching.

Hi Alan,

I’m sorry you were having trouble with this. Glad you got something figured out!

When you say that you tried the recommendations from the previous comment but the “page freezes,” did you have your machine powered on and connected to your computer when this happened?

You also mentioned that you’re designing in the house and carving in an outbuilding. I assume you’re using different computers in each location. Are you planning to use Easel as your sender?

My first use for Easel is to create a G-code file to flatten my spoilboard. The lack of control of the grid it problematic in creating straight line paths. I did discover the spoilboard ‘project’ that just needed x and y size and step size, but it also failed to do simple strait lines on a millimeter grid. I’m a retired design and production engineer, used to editing G-code files for PCB manufacture, so I’ve gone back to first principles and manually written my own file. So far, Easel doesn’t work for me, but I’ll give it another try later.

The lines highlight red when they are perpendicular or straight up and down. Use the pen tool. Having learned to write gcode myself back in the beginning of this, I feel your pain. If somebody comes up with Easel for dummies, they’ll make a fortune.
