Phil's Glowforge Projects

Supposed to be releasing this quarter or next, they’re still in preorder…

the major advantage to my mind is that the software is onboard (and runs it’s own server via local network for browser access), but that can be a drawback too. it does not seem to have the feed through of the Glowforge Pro though and is a good 1-2k more expensive.

Isn’t the Dremel laser a rebrand of the FSL Muse?

yes it is. Crazy expensive too

Laser engraving will remove a smidge of material so there will be some depth to it.

I know  Hence I specified engraving, not cutting
Very cool

In reference to the color of the engraved area, does the finished product have that caramel color or did you need to brush off the char somehow?

Can you please delete this thread entirely @PhilJohnson before I have to explain a Glowforge purchase to my wife? Thanks

Already went through that yesterday - I have a cool wife.

@PhilJohnson here is a link for some opensourced designs like living hinges that you can laser cut and also some good reading about CO2 lasers for you. https://obrary.com/

My wife actually ok’d the purchase of my newest laser. She wanted me to make some Christmas ornaments for her friends and my original laser needed some TLC. (it was a cheap Chinese laser which actually was a great starter but I would continually tweak and upgrade it so I needed to “play” with it when I really wanted to use it.) Anyway she finally asked how much one would cost that I did not have to keep “playing” with each time I wanted to use it. I had my eye on my current 60 watt unit and she said that it would be my Christmas gift!

I knew I liked you for some reason!

BTW what are you using for the eyelets? I just ordered a bunch of these for better looking key-chains.

I’m sure just buying split rings in bulk is cheaper than the keychain version I linked to. I just thought it looks a little more finished, for lack of a term.

Those cuts and engravings look great. Looks like you’re enjoying the new machine. Are you cutting 3mm birch ply?

Where are you sourcing your plywood, especially the 3mm? I can get 1/4" (5.2mm usually) at the big box stores.

hmmmm Five Finger Death Punch… Nice!

Different woods will burn in different colors. Turning up the amperage usually doesn’t make it darker, only recessed deeper.
An Ouija board I once did turned out pitch black. Don’t remember the wood though.

‘Real’ lasers are cool huh, Phil? :+1:

very nice! Especially that last one. Is that actual comission work or is it an example piece. The name and date seem pretty generic
