I made a basic cabinet to try out the software and my machine. I would like to run the detail file with 1/8 bit to cut shelf pin holes then run the roughing file to cut the rest and use tiling for the rest of the cabinet. is there a way to select what features are cut with each bit?

That’s what I’m asking, how do I select specific features to use with a specific bit.
Hi there, Jerron
While there’s not currently a direct way to select the features to be cut with each bit, you may still be able to achieve your desired results using the following workflow:
- Make a copy of the workpiece in your project.
- In one workpiece, let’s call it Workpiece A, delete all of the features that you want to cut with the 1/8" bit
- In the other workpiece, let’s call it Workpiece B, delete all of the features except those that you want to cut with the 1/8" bit
- Prepare your material on your machine for carving, insert the 1/8" bit
- Load Workpiece B with the features to be cut with the 1/8" bit, ensure you have homed the machine before carving (if your machine supports homing)
- Set the work zero and begin carving the first tile of Workpiece B
- You may find it helpful to make a marking with the bit or with a pencil to mark the work zero location for the first and second tiles
- When the first tile of Workpiece B is carved, switch out the bit and carve the first tile of Workpiece A using the same work zero as you did with Workpiece B
- When that is complete, install your 1/8" bit again, go back to Workpiece B, and move the material as instructed by the tiling settings. Then set your new work zero for the second tile.
- Run the second tile of Workpiece B using the 1/8" bit
- When that is complete, swap your bit again, switch back to Workpiece A, and carve the second tile of Workpiece A using the same work zero as you did when carving the second tile of Workpiece B
You may also find it helpful to use a fixture to keep your material aligned when moving it on your work area in between the first and second tiles. There are a number of posts in our forum where other users have shared their tips and tricks for successful tiling.
Best of luck – can’t wait to see how the cabinets turn out!
