Hi EASEL Team,
I have an idea that I believe could really enhance your software and set it apart from the competition.
Currently, many design programs like Fusion 360, Photoshop, and Vetric tend to become overly technical and complex, with settings so intricate that it often feels like you need a degree just to navigate them effectively. This can be a barrier for users who want a more intuitive, art-focused approach.
Typically, users turn to tools like Inkscape to prepare images for carving, using shading to simulate depth before importing into Easel. However, Easel Pro primarily offers 2D design with some depth, missing a truly artistic element. On the other hand, 3D carving features are mainly used for generating G-code, rather than fostering a creative design process.
My proposal is to introduce a “2.5D” design feature into your software—an intuitive, artistic toolset that feeds directly into the 3D carving process, but with a focus on ease of use and creative expression. This feature should include:
1. Shade Tool – for adding depth and shadowing naturally.
2. Paint Brush – with depth control, textures, and customizable shapes—think of them as “chisels” that shape the material visually.
3. Eraser – also with depth control, textures, and shape options, perhaps with a lighten filter to refine details.
I personally use Paint.net for much of my work, and I love how its tools are straightforward yet versatile—precisely what I believe your software needs. It’s a simple, effective interface that allows for creative freedom without overwhelming complexity.
Since I mainly carve wood, my focus is on tools that can replicate the tactile experience of chiseling and shaping, blending artistic expression with technical precision.
By adding this “2.5D” feature, your program could appeal to a broader range of users—artists, hobbyists, and professionals alike—making design more accessible, intuitive, and fun.
Thanks for considering this idea!
